What initially appeared to be a significant obstacle for the extended family of highlife icon Daddy Lumba has now been resolved, as the Accra High Court has lifted the injunction that temporarily halted his funeral plans.
This decision clears the way for the ceremony to proceed tomorrow.
In its ruling earlier today, the court indicated that documents submitted suggested the immediate family may have been excluded from the funeral arrangements, noting the need for a thorough examination of the issues raised.
The judge summoned lawyers from both sides and directed the applicants to report before 2:00 p.m. and cover expenses already incurred in preparing for the funeral by paying GH¢2 million into the court.
However, the applicants did not meet the court-imposed deadline, leading to their application being dismissed. This effectively removed the legal barrier and allowed the funeral preparations to move forward.
According to the family head’s lawyer, Thomas Kwadwo Osei, the ruling comes as a major relief, enabling the family to continue with final arrangements.
The earlier injunction had briefly disrupted planned activities and created uncertainty among relatives and fans who had already gathered in Kumasi for the event. With the application struck out, preparations for tomorrow’s funeral will proceed as planned.
