The Asante Kingdom has gone into mourning following the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
At an emergency Asanteman Traditional Council meeting on Monday, the Oyoko Family revealed the death of Asanteman’s second most important person, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, born Nana Ama Konadu, was the 14th Asantehemaa and biological sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
She became the Asantehemaa five years ago, following the death of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, the previous Asantehema.
Nana Konadu Yiadom is highly revered for her loyalty and wisdom, strength, and adherence to tradition, having played an important role in the preservation of Asante culture by guiding Asanteman in support of her brother, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Oyoko Family announced the death to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Her presence at the Manhyia Palace represented not only the royal family’s stability and togetherness, but also Asanteman as a whole.
Though information about her death are scarce, family sources suggest Nana Konadu Yiadom III died at early on August 7, 2025.
The Manhyia Palace is expected to officially inform the public and outline funeral arrangements once all traditional protocols, including all traditional rites preceding royal death announcements, have been followed.
