Tottenham Hotspur’s disastrous season reached another low point after goalkeeper Antonín Kinský was substituted just 17 minutes into a humiliating UEFA Champions League defeat against Atlético Madrid.
Kinský, who started ahead of Guglielmo Vicario, slipped twice in the opening minutes, gifting goals to Marcos Llorente and Julián Álvarez. After the second error, interim manager Igor Tudor quickly replaced him.
Amid the chaos, Micky van de Ven also lost his footing, allowing Antoine Griezmann to add another goal. Moments later, Robin Le Normand made it four within just 23 minutes, capping a remarkable and damaging spell of play for Spurs.
A goal from Pedro Porro briefly interrupted Tottenham’s misery, but Julián Álvarez struck again 10 minutes into the second half, finishing a rapid counterattack after Jan Oblak produced a superb save to deny Richarlison.
The defeat leaves Tudor under increasing pressure after a fourth consecutive loss, with the Croatian struggling to halt Tottenham’s downward spiral.
Kinský’s difficult night began as early as the sixth minute when he slipped while attempting to control the ball, inadvertently passing it to Ademola Lookman, who set up Marcos Llorente for a simple finish.
The nightmare continued shortly afterward when Van de Ven’s slip allowed Antoine Griezmann to score again. Kinský then stumbled while trying to clear the ball, gifting Julián Álvarez an easy chance to roll the ball into an empty net.
With the situation spiraling, Tudor substituted Kinský for Guglielmo Vicario, with the 22-year-old Czech goalkeeper receiving support from teammates and even sympathetic applause from the home crowd.
Tottenham’s problems did not end there, as Robin Le Normand added a fourth goal after a goalmouth scramble. Porro later reduced the deficit with a low strike.
Even Atlético’s Jan Oblak endured a rare mistake, misplacing a clearance that went straight to Dominic Solanke, who converted for Spurs.
The match concluded on a worrying note when a late collision between João Palhinha and Cristian Romero resulted in Palhinha being substituted. Romero appeared to struggle after the incident, forcing Tottenham to finish the game with 10 players.
