The lawyer for Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, has detailed the legal actions to follow after the High Court granted him bail set at GH¢30 million with two justified sureties.
His counsel, Sani Abdul Salam, said the legal team is in the process of securing a certified copy of the court’s ruling, which will allow them to begin meeting the bail requirements in line with the law.
He noted that the bail was approved to guarantee the accused’s presence in court whenever proceedings related to his extradition resume.
According to the lawyer, the defence is taking steps to fully adhere to the court’s conditions.
Despite being granted bail, Abu Trica remains in custody as he continues to oppose moves to extradite him over allegations tied to an $8 million romance scam and wire fraud case.
A new date for the trial has not yet been set.
The bail ruling comes as the court considers multiple applications in the case, including earlier attempts by the defence to block the extradition.
Previously, the Gbese Circuit Court rejected a request to halt the extradition process and ruled that he could be transferred to United States authorities, while giving him a 15-day period to contest the decision through a habeas corpus application.
