Akrobeto has shared details about his son’s unconventional journey, revealing that his son exited the formal education system after facing persistent academic challenges and failing remedial exams several times.
Following guidance from Apostle Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Kantanka, his son decided to abandon plans of attending university and instead pursue a practical skill through apprenticeship. He eventually chose to learn mobile phone repair.
In an interview on Royal TV, the Kumawood actor explained that his last-born son struggled to keep up academically, despite being motivated by his siblings who were pursuing higher education both in Ghana and abroad.
Reflecting on the situation, he said:
“My son wanted to attend university, my third-born. I did everything I could, but I realised he had copied my academic dullness. He was not smart and had taken remedial classes three times. Akrobeto wanted to further his education because one of his brothers was abroad and the other was at university.
After multiple failed attempts at passing his remedial exams, Akrobeto decided to withdraw him from school based on the advice he received from Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
He recounted:
“I took him to my father, Kantanka, and he advised him. The boy changed his mind and asked me to sponsor him through a phone repair apprenticeship.”
The actor then enrolled his son in a phone repair course at China House in Kumasi, where he also supported him financially by renting a shop space and providing a weekly allowance of GH¢100.
However, within just eight months, the young man became financially independent after mastering the trade.
“After eight months, he told me to stop sending him money. He had mastered phone repairs and was capable of fixing any phone,” Akrobeto added, drawing laughter from the show’s host.
