Mohammed Kudus on 2026 world cup

Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus has reaffirmed Ghana’s strong resolve to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that missing out is simply not an option.

Ghana will continue their qualifying journey this month with two vital matches — first against the Central African Republic on October 8 in Morocco, and then a home tie with Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 12. The four-time African champions require just four points from these fixtures to guarantee their spot at the global tournament, which will be hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder acknowledged the lingering disappointment of Ghana’s failure to reach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but insisted that the team’s energy is now fully directed towards securing World Cup qualification.

“AFCON is a huge competition for the nation, and not making it was very painful,” Mohammed Kudus admitted. “But right now, our complete focus is on the World Cup qualifiers.”

The 25-year-old also underlined the deep sense of honor he feels when representing Ghana. “Playing for your country is a unique experience — it carries the greatest emotions for me,” he said. “Wearing the national jersey is something I cherish with immense pride.”
