Asante Kotoko have officially announced that head coach Karim Zito has stepped down from his position, ending his spell at the club after just 11 months.
The resignation comes in the wake of the Porcupine Warriors’ elimination from the MTN FA Cup, following a 4-2 loss to Aduana FC in their Round of 16 encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Pressure had been mounting on Zito prior to the cup exit, as Kotoko struggled to find consistency in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. The team currently occupies fifth place on the league table, having accumulated 35 points from 21 games.
In a statement released by the club, management confirmed, “Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his position as head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect. Management has accepted his resignation, thanked him for his contribution to the club, and wished him success in his future endeavors. The club’s new technical direction will be announced in due course.”
Zito initially took charge as interim head coach in April 2025 after the exit of Prosper Narteh Ogum. His success in guiding Kotoko to FA Cup triumph later earned him a permanent appointment, with the former Dreams FC coach signing a two-year contract.
Attention now shifts to Kotoko’s crucial Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, scheduled for Sunday, February 14, at the Baba Yara Stadium, as the club looks to steady itself following the coaching change.
