The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that Andre Ayew could still earn a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that such a decision would not come as a shock to him.
The NAC Breda striker has been absent from the Black Stars since featuring in friendly matches against Nigeria and Uganda in March 2024.
Since then, the 36-year-old has repeatedly been omitted from national team selections, including squads for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the World Cup qualifiers.
Ayew, who previously played for Le Havre, signed for NAC Breda in January after becoming a free agent at the end of last season.
Speaking on Adom FM, Adams noted that the veteran forward is regaining form and, as long as he has not announced his retirement from international football, a return to the national team remains possible.
Ayew has started NAC Breda’s last three Eredivisie matches and is still searching for his first goal since joining the Dutch side.
