The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has stated that the Black Stars’ squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to remain largely unchanged, except in the event of injuries prior to the tournament.
According to him, head coach Carlos Queiroz has already named a 28-man provisional squad, with the final 26-player roster scheduled to be confirmed on June 1.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Mr. Asante Twum explained that the current group of players has been tasked with competing for places in the final selection, with no major restructuring anticipated at this stage of preparations.
He noted that the technical team is focused on assessing the available players rather than introducing fresh changes unless unavoidable circumstances such as injuries occur.
“The 28 players must compete for the final spots in the squad,” he said, adding that the current composition is expected to remain stable barring any fitness concerns.
The Black Stars are currently in Cardiff, Wales, where they are intensifying preparations for a pre-tournament friendly against Wales scheduled for June 2.
Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
The team will begin its campaign on June 17 against Panama at BMO Field before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
The four-time African champions will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
