WC 2026: Each Black Stars player to pocket $100,000

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that members of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, will continue to receive an appearance fee of $100,000 each for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on TV3, the minister disclosed that the fee structure has remained unchanged for several years, despite variations in previous World Cup cycles.

According to Adams, player appearance fees have evolved over time, ranging between $50,000 and $80,000 during earlier tournaments before rising to $120,000 at one stage. However, the amount was later adjusted to $100,000, a figure that has since been maintained.

He noted that the government has no intention of reviewing the current arrangement ahead of the tournament, emphasising that fluctuations in the value of the Ghanaian cedi do not necessarily warrant an increase in payments made in US dollars.

The minister further defended the decision to maintain the existing fee, stating that the agreed structure remains fair, consistent, and sustainable. He stressed that exchange rate movements alone should not be the determining factor in revising player compensation.
