Ghana premier league

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season officially kicks off today, Friday, September 12, 2025, at the iconic Accra Sports Stadium.

The grand launch event will start at 5:00 PM local time, featuring a spectacular occasion highlighted by President John Dramani Mahama performing the ceremonial kick-off to mark the beginning of the new campaign.

This symbolic gesture by the president underscores the importance and national pride attached to Ghana’s top-flight football league.

The festivities will include a curtain-raiser match at 4:00 PM between the Black Starlets (Ghana’s U-17 national team) and Auroras FC, the youth side of Accra Hearts of Oak, setting the stage for the excitement to come.

Following this, the main highlight of the evening will be the opening fixture between the Accra Hearts of Oak, one of Ghana’s football giants, and the newly promoted Hohoe United. Kick-off for this eagerly anticipated match is set for 7:00 PM under the floodlights of the Accra Sports Stadium.

Hearts of Oak will be looking to start the season strong after a rigorous pre-season and some key new signings. They are keen to break their four-year streak without an opening day victory and reaffirm their status as title contenders.

On the other hand, Hohoe United will be making their debut in the Ghana Premier League, eager to make a bold statement in their first-ever match at this level.

Beyond the football action, fans at the stadium will be treated to a live performance by award-winning Afro-dancehall and reggae star Stonebwoy, adding vibrant entertainment to the atmosphere and making the evening a full celebration of Ghanaian culture and sport.

The Ghana Premier League season promises to be one of the most competitive in recent memory, with a mix of stalwart clubs, ambitious newcomers like Hohoe United, and revitalized teams all targeting success.

Over the coming months, supporters can expect a thrilling mix of battles for the league title, mid-table positioning, and survival in the top flight, with plenty of drama and memorable moments guaranteed on the pitch.

Following the opening match tonight, the rest of the opening week will feature a total of nine more matches spread between Saturday and Sunday, kicking off the full league calendar across the country.

The excitement, passion, and love for football will be palpable at Accra Sports Stadium this evening as the nation’s fans come together to celebrate the start of what promises to be an exhilarating season of Ghanaian football
