Benjamin Asare (Ghana)
Benjamin Asare’s rise has been one of the tournament’s most surprising stories. Entering the World Cup as Ghana’s third-choice goalkeeper behind Lawrence Ati-Zigi, few expected him to feature prominently.
However, fate intervened when Ati-Zigi suffered an injury during Ghana’s opening Group L match against Panama. Called into action at halftime, Asare remained composed and made three important saves to help Ghana secure a narrow 1-0 victory.

Alireza Beiranvand (Iran)
Alireza Beiranvand’s journey to football’s elite level is an inspiring one. Raised in a poor nomadic Kurdish family, he overcame numerous obstacles, including opposition from his father, to pursue a career in football.
At the 2026 World Cup, the Iranian goalkeeper once again demonstrated his quality. During Iran’s goalless draw against Belgium at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Beiranvand produced a standout performance, making seven saves and earning the Player of the Match award.
His most memorable moment came in the 85th minute when he denied Maxim De Cuyper with an incredible close-range save despite the Belgian appearing certain to score. The stop left spectators stunned and even drew admiration from Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Mohammad Al-Owais (Saudi Arabia)
Mohammad Al-Owais has once again proven his ability to shine on football’s biggest occasions.
After playing a key role in Saudi Arabia’s famous victory over Argentina at the 2022 World Cup, the experienced goalkeeper delivered another remarkable display in the team’s Group H clash against Uruguay.
In Miami, Al-Owais recorded nine saves—the highest tally by any goalkeeper at the tournament so far. Uruguay launched 27 shots throughout the match, but the Saudi goalkeeper repeatedly denied them with a series of outstanding interventions.
He thwarted efforts from Manuel Ugarte, tipped dangerous shots onto the woodwork, and produced several crucial saves to protect Saudi Arabia’s lead after Abdulelah Al-Amri’s opening goal.
Although Maxi Araujo eventually equalised late in the game, Saudi Arabia secured a valuable point thanks largely to Al-Owais’ performance.

Eloy Room (Curaçao)
Eloy Room produced what many consider one of the greatest goalkeeping displays in World Cup history during Curaçao’s match against Ecuador.
Representing a nation of just over 150,000 people in its first-ever World Cup appearance, Room delivered an extraordinary performance in Kansas City. He initially recorded 15 saves in a remarkable 0-0 draw, helping Curaçao earn their first point at the tournament.
FIFA later revised the figure to 16 saves after crediting him with stopping a deflected cross. That tally equalled the all-time World Cup record set by American goalkeeper Tim Howard.
The achievement was even more remarkable because Room matched the record in a standard 90-minute match, whereas Howard’s record came during a game that lasted 120 minutes.

Vozinha (Cape Verde)

Spain managed 27 shots but could not find a way past the veteran goalkeeper. He denied several dangerous opportunities and preserved his clean sheet with a string of crucial interventions, including a remarkable save from a rebound after Ferran Torres struck the crossbar.
