Bibiani GoldStars

Bibiani GoldStars FC have parted company with head coach Frimpong Manso following the team’s 2-0 home defeat to Algerian giants JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

The decision was confirmed by Kumasi-based radio station Oyerepa FM circulated on Monday, suggesting that both parties had reached a mutual agreement to end their association.

Manso, who took charge of GoldStars in December 2023, will be remembered for his remarkable contribution to the club’s history.

Under his guidance, the Bibiani-based outfit stunned Ghana football by clinching their first-ever Ghana Premier League title in the 2024/25 season.

The former Ghana international further added silverware to the club’s cabinet by steering them to victory in the prestigious GHALCA Top 4 Cup earlier this year.

However, GoldStars’ debut campaign in Africa’s premier club competition proved a difficult hurdle.

Despite the anticipation from their home fans, the Miners fell short against JS Kabylie, conceding two goals without reply at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The setback means their chances of progression look slim ahead of the return leg in Algeria.

Manso’s departure comes as a major blow ahead of a demanding season where GoldStars will attempt to defend their domestic crown while also balancing continental duties.

The club is expected to name an interim coach in the coming days to prepare the squad for the second leg and the resumption of the Ghana Premier League campaign.
