NAC Breda’s relegation from the Dutch Eredivisie to the Eerste Divisie has been officially confirmed, even though the club failed to complete its penultimate league fixture of the 2025/26 season.
The confirmation came after 16th-placed Volendam secured a 1-1 draw against Excelsior, taking their points total to 32 seven points ahead of NAC Breda, who have only two matches remaining in the campaign.
Breda’s match against Heerenveen was abandoned after fireworks were set off at the stadium. However, results elsewhere in the league meant the club could no longer escape relegation, regardless of the outcomes of their remaining fixtures.
NAC Breda are therefore guaranteed to finish 17th in the 18-team league and will compete in the second tier next season.
Former Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew joined NAC Breda as a free agent in January but has managed just one goal in 16 league appearances so far. Ghanaian internationals Kamal Sowah and Denis Odoi are also part of the Breda squad.
Following the relegation confirmation, NAC Breda General Manager Remco Oversier expressed disappointment while speaking to the club’s media channels.
