The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced it will address public concerns after the Sports Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, disclosed the budget for the Black Stars’ World Cup qualifiers.
During a Tuesday press briefing, Adams revealed the budget for the matches against Chad and Mali was significantly reduced from $2 million to $1.3 million.
The Sports Ministry cut the away game budget in Chad from $1,239,090 to $841,290, while the home game budget against Chad is now $463,600. Bonus payments for players, technical staff, and management were also substantially reduced.
In response, the GFA issued a statement indicating they will clarify the issues after the two upcoming games. The GFA emphasized the importance of focusing on the critical World Cup qualifying matches set for September 4 and September 8, 2025, urging Ghanaians to support the team.
They highlighted that the unity and dedication of fans have always been crucial to the Black Stars’ success and requested the nation maintain this support.
The GFA promised comprehensive comments after the Mali game and thanked supporters for their ongoing encouragement.
Meanwhile, Minister Adams challenged the GFA to identify who authored their unsigned statement and reiterated that the Ministry would respond further if the GFA replies.
He emphasized that the government had reduced the budget after reviewing estimates and called on the GFA to be transparent and bold. Many Ghanaians have praised the Minister for making the budget public in line with President John Mahama’s directive.
This sets the stage for a continued exchange between the Ministry of Sports and the GFA regarding the budget cuts and related clarifications
