The Ghana Football Association has officially ended its relationship with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo after a string of poor performances in recent international friendlies.
Addo’s departure follows four straight defeats, including successive losses to Austria and Germany, a run that ultimately led to the decision.
His exit comes at a critical time as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Black Stars have been placed in a tough group featuring Panama, England, and Croatia.
In an official statement, the GFA expressed gratitude for Addo’s contributions, stating that they sincerely appreciate his service and wish him success in his future endeavors. The association also noted that updates on the team’s new technical direction will be announced soon.
Ghana is scheduled to play Mexico and Wales in May as part of its final preparations ahead of the World Cup in June and July.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has admitted that the country is not yet fully ready for the tournament but emphasized that efforts are underway to address the gaps.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV, he explained that preparations go beyond the pitch and include broader efforts to promote the country.
He further disclosed that the government has set aside about $30 million for Ghana’s World Cup campaign, covering expenses such as accommodation, training, feeding, player bonuses, and promotional activities.
The GFA is expected to name either an interim technical team or a new head coach in the coming days as preparations intensify.
