The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has announced that it has obtained exclusive terrestrial (free-to-air) broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026, following support from the Government of Ghana.
In a statement released on June 10, 2026, GBC explained that the development is part of efforts by the government to ensure that all Ghanaians are able to access coverage of the tournament, including the opportunity to follow the Black Stars throughout the competition.

To support nationwide coverage, GBC has formed a National Broadcast Consortium made up of several television stations operating under a coordinated technical, marketing, and broadcasting framework.
The initiative was established at the request of the government to broaden access and maximise national reach.
Under the arrangement, FIFA through New World TV and GBC has authorised a number of television stations in Ghana to broadcast the tournament.
These include:
GBC (GTV, GTV Sports+, Garden City TV, Obonu TV), Multimedia Group (Adom TV, Joy Prime), EIB Network (GHOne TV, Agoo TV), Ignite Media (Metro TV, Original TV), Media General (TV3, Onua TV), and Independent Broadcasters (Max TV, Sporty TV, Woezor TV, UTV).
GBC further indicated that radio stations intending to broadcast World Cup matches will be required to obtain sub-licences from the corporation. It cautioned that any unauthorised radio transmission of tournament content will not be permitted.
The corporation also highlighted the commercial opportunities associated with the World Cup, describing it as one of the most widely viewed sporting events globally.

According to GBC, the consortium will provide platforms for sponsorship, advertising, and digital engagement across television, radio, and social media.
Additionally, GBC, FIFA, and New World TV issued a strong warning against any unauthorised broadcast, rebroadcast, streaming, public screening, or commercial use of World Cup content within Ghana.
They noted that all platforms, including digital and social media channels, will be closely monitored during the tournament, with legal action and regulatory sanctions expected for any breaches of broadcasting rights.
GBC expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana and partner institutions for their support in ensuring nationwide access to the tournament.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico and is expected to attract a global audience of billions of viewers.
