Kotoko breaks Hearts in the super clash to remain unbeaten

Asante Kotoko silenced their archrivals Accra Hearts of Oak with a historic 1-0 victory in the highly anticipated Ghana Premier League Super Clash held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This win marked Kotoko’s first November triumph over Hearts in 50 years, ending a long-standing barren run against their fierce rivals in this month.

Kotoko’s only goal of the match came from Morifing Donzo, who calmly converted a first-half penalty awarded after a challenge on Peter Amidu Acquah inside the box.

Donzo demonstrated nerves of steel by placing the ball neatly into the net, giving the Porcupine Warriors a slender 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The first half saw Kotoko dominate proceedings with spirited midfield control and relentless pressure that initially rattled Hearts.

Despite Hearts gradually finding their rhythm and creating promising chances, they failed to capitalize, with Kotoko goalkeeper Benjamin Asare making crucial saves to keep the clean sheet intact.

The second half was a changing tide as Hearts pushed aggressively for an equalizer, intensifying their attack and creating multiple opportunities. Nonetheless, Kotoko’s disciplined defense held firm against the relentless Hearts’ onslaught.

A dramatic moment came late in stoppage time when Hearts appeared to score a spectacular equalizer through Mawuli Wayo, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside after a VAR consultation—snuffing out Hearts’ hopes and sparking controversy.

This victory not only delivered Kotoko three valuable points but also carried immense psychological weight by overcoming a five-decade November hoodoo against Hearts.

It further strengthened Kotoko’s recent dominance, marking their fourth win in the last five league meetings against Hearts. Hearts suffered their first league defeat of the 2025/26 season, facing an uphill battle as they aim to bounce back.

In summary, the Super Clash lived up to its billing with thrilling moments, tactical battles, and historic significance, as Asante Kotoko showcased grit and calmness to silence Hearts of Oak and reclaim bragging rights in Ghana’s most celebrated football rivalry.
