The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to stage a demonstration on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to protest what it describes as alleged corruption, financial irregularities, lack of transparency and the government’s failure to honour key campaign promises.

The demonstration, which has been dubbed the ‘Yegyeyɛ Sika Demo’, is expected to attract party members and supporters, particularly young people, who intend to demand greater accountability from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

One of the major issues expected to dominate the protest is the government’s recent evacuation exercise in South Africa. The NPP youth wing is demanding a comprehensive explanation of the funds reportedly allocated for the operation and greater transparency regarding how the money was utilised.

The organisers have also raised concerns about the management of public finances, questioning what they consider inconsistencies in the government’s handling of state resources.

According to the NPP youth leadership, the demonstration is part of efforts by the opposition party to scrutinise government decisions and ensure that public officials are held accountable for their stewardship of taxpayers’ money.

NPP Youth Demand Explanation Over GH¢49.7 Million

Speaking to Citi News ahead of the planned demonstration, NPP Volta Regional Youth Organizer Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu urged young Ghanaians to participate in the protest, arguing that citizens should not remain silent when questions arise over the management of public funds.

Amekplenu maintained that the demonstration was necessary to demand answers from the government, particularly concerning the GH¢49.7 million reportedly allocated to the South Africa evacuation exercise.

He specifically called on Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to provide a detailed account of the funds and clarify their actual status.

According to the NPP youth organiser, the opposition wants to establish whether the reported financial figures were affected by any accounting discrepancies or errors during the reconciliation process.

He questioned whether there had been a transposition error or other accounting mistakes in the process of balancing the accounts, insisting that Ghanaians deserve a clear explanation.

The youth organiser further argued that citizens would demand accountability if similar financial concerns involved their personal businesses or resources, stressing that public funds should receive the same level of scrutiny.

South Africa Evacuation Exercise Under Scrutiny

The South Africa evacuation operation has become a major subject of political debate, with the NPP youth wing insisting that the government must provide detailed information about the expenditure involved.

The opposition group wants clarification on the allocation and utilisation of the reported GH¢49.7 million, including whether the financial records accurately reflect the actual cost of the exercise.

The organisers believe that providing answers to these questions would help address public concerns and strengthen transparency in the management of national resources.

Demonstration to Focus on Government Accountability

Beyond the evacuation expenditure, the ‘Yegyeyɛ Sika Demo’ is expected to draw attention to broader concerns about public financial management, alleged corruption and the fulfilment of campaign promises.

The NPP youth wing says the protest represents its commitment to holding the NDC government accountable and demanding transparency from public officeholders.

The demonstration is also expected to provide an opportunity for the opposition youth group to communicate its concerns about governance and the use of taxpayers’ money.

As the protest takes place, attention will be on the organisers’ demands and the government’s response to the financial questions being raised.

For the NPP youth wing, the central message is that public officials must be prepared to account for the resources entrusted to them and provide clear explanations whenever questions arise over government expenditure.
