black sherif

Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif has won his first-ever Songwriter of the Year award at the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) with his hit song “Sacrifice”, achieving another major milestone in his fast-rising career.

The category is regarded as one of the most prestigious at the TGMA because it recognises exceptional songwriting, lyrical creativity, and storytelling rather than commercial popularity alone.

Black Sherif emerged victorious against a strong lineup of nominees including Kofi Kinaata’s “Have Mercy II,” Cofi Boham’s “Take Me Home”, Akwaboah’s “Obi Nnim (Obinim)”, Stonebwoy’s “Send Them a Prayer”, and Ko-Jo Cue’s “Abeberese”.

The victory is seen as particularly significant because it ends Kofi Kinaata’s long-standing dominance in the category.

Kofi Kinaata, widely celebrated as one of Ghana’s finest songwriters, had won the Songwriter of the Year award five consecutive times, setting a historic record in the process. However, Black Sherif, popularly known as the Konongo hitmaker, has now broken that remarkable streak with his TGMA 27 triumph
