The interdiction of the headmaster of Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School over alleged sexual misconduct has once again drawn attention to the rising cases of professional misconduct in second-cycle institutions.
Throughout 2025, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued several disciplinary sanctions involving allegations ranging from inappropriate sexual behaviour to the diversion of food supplies meant for students.
According to the GES, these measures are necessary to safeguard students and uphold professional integrity while investigations are carried out.
1. Tsito SECTECH headmaster and staff interdicted
In January 2025, the GES suspended Rev. Joy Kafui Akpebu, Headmaster of Tsito Secondary Technical School in the Volta Region, together with storekeeper Sylvanus Awunyo and driver Kwame Ampeh. This action followed reports that over 100 cartons of tinned tomatoes intended for student meals had been diverted. The interdiction was implemented to ensure an impartial investigation.
2. Piina SHS headmaster interdicted
On February 6, 2025, the GES interdicted the Headmaster of Piina Senior High School, Adams Mahama Issahaku, after food supplies were allegedly found in his official pick-up vehicle on its way to Wa. A letter dated February 7 from Regional Director Razak Z. Abdul-Korah stated that the interdiction was a procedural measure and not an indication of guilt.
3. KNUST SHS assistant headmaster removed
On September 29, 2025, the GES dismissed Charles A. Aidoo, the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics at KNUST SHS. His removal came after a viral video allegedly showed him in a compromising situation with a female student. The GES further barred him from accessing the school while investigations continued.
4. Okadjakrom SHTS teacher interdicted
Mr. Richard Tibetor of Okadjakrom Senior High Technical School in the Jasikan Municipality was interdicted on October 2, 2025, after a video circulating online allegedly depicted him engaging in sexual misconduct with a female student. The GES condemned the behaviour as a violation of professional ethics and prohibited him from entering the school premises during investigations.
5. Dzodze-Penyi SHS headmaster interdicted
On December 6, 2025, the GES directed the Headmaster of Dzodze-Penyi SHS, Mr. Joshua Vidzro, to step aside following allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students. He was ordered to hand over his duties to the Ketu North Municipal Director of Education, vacate the school compound by December 8, and remain available for questioning while avoiding contact with the affected students.
The actions taken across 2025 highlight the Ghana Education Service’s heightened efforts to curb misconduct and safeguard students nationwide.
