Several parts of Ghana experienced a widespread power outage in the early hours of Thursday, August 20, disrupting electricity supply to homes, businesses, and other facilities.
The outage was particularly noticeable in Accra, where residents in communities such as Adabraka, Weija, Tesano, Achimota, Dzorwulu, Legon, Madina, Adenta, North Kaneshie, and Oyarifa reported power interruptions from about 4:15 a.m.
Communities in the Eastern, Central, and Ashanti regions were also said to have been affected by the disruption.
At the time of reporting, the exact cause of the outage remained unclear. Authorities in the power sector had also not provided information on when electricity supply would be fully restored to all affected communities.
The interruption has affected residents and businesses that depend on reliable electricity for their daily activities, with many waiting for official updates from the relevant authorities.
Thursday’s incident comes roughly three weeks after another widespread power outage on July 29. That disruption affected parts of Accra, Tema, and Kasoa, as well as communities in the Ashanti and Eastern regions.
