President John Dramani Mahama, together with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has presented a cash donation of GH₵50,000 to the family of the late highlife great, Daddy Lumba.
The contribution was made on Saturday, December 13, during the final funeral ceremonies held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Thousands of admirers thronged the venue from the early hours to honor the celebrated musician. The scene blended grief with celebration, as fans sang and danced to Daddy Lumba’s classic songs. Security presence was also intensified to maintain order and ensure the safety of mourners.
Several prominent figures were in attendance, including NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, and Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, alongside other party executives.
The crowd was further stirred when musician Nana Acheampong mounted the stage, delivering a live band performance in tribute to Daddy Lumba’s enduring musical influence.
The burial follows a landmark decision by the Accra High Court that allowed the funeral to proceed after the musician’s maternal family failed to raise the GH₵2 million needed to keep an injunction in place to prevent the release of his body.
Legal representatives described the ruling as a welcome development that brought relief and unity, calling on Ghanaians to turn out and honour the memory of the national icon.
