The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has declared its intention to organise a nationwide protest over what it describes as the inadequate number of recruitment opportunities available to trained teachers, despite a rising backlog.
In a statement dated April 23, 2026, the association called on both teacher trainees and qualified teachers affected by the 2022–2024 recruitment backlog to participate, noting that the demonstration is aimed at bringing their concerns to national attention.
TTAG announced that the protest will take place on Friday, April 24, 2026, and will be held simultaneously across the country.
According to the association, the exercise will occur across all forty-nine Colleges of Education in Ghana, with a central gathering scheduled in Accra.
The group explained that the decision comes after a series of consultations with members and reflects the pressing need for a more inclusive and responsive teacher recruitment system.
“This action follows extensive engagement and careful consideration of the concerns of our members, particularly regarding the growing backlog of trained teachers awaiting recruitment,” the statement said.
TTAG also indicated that it has coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure the protest is conducted peacefully and in an organised manner.
Participants have been urged to remain disciplined and united throughout the demonstration, with all forty-nine Colleges of Education expected to take part with urgency and order.
