Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu has sealed a permanent transfer from Leicester City to Ipswich Town, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at the Premier League club until June 2031.

The 22-year-old completes the move for an undisclosed fee, ending a successful three-year spell with Leicester, where he developed into one of the club’s key attacking players.

Leicester City confirms transfer

Leicester City announced Fatawu’s departure in an official statement, confirming that an agreement had been reached with Ipswich Town, subject to the necessary league and international clearances.

The club noted that the Ghana international initially arrived on loan from Portuguese side Sporting CP at the start of the 2023/24 campaign before his move was made permanent the following year after helping Leicester secure the EFL Championship title.

During his time at the King Power Stadium, Fatawu made 100 appearances across all competitions and scored 16 goals.

Leicester thanked the winger for his contributions over the past three seasons and wished him success in the next chapter of his career.

Fatawu heads to Portman Road after an impressive 2025/26 season in which he registered nine goals in 44 matches for Leicester in all competitions.

The Ghana international also represented the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in all four of the team’s matches as Ghana progressed to the Round of 32.

His displays at both club and international level attracted interest from several clubs before Ipswich secured his signature ahead of the new Premier League season.

Journey from Ghana to England

Fatawu began his career with Steadfast FC before spending time on loan at Dreams FC, where his performances earned him a move to Portuguese giants Sporting CP in 2022.

He joined Leicester City on loan in August 2023 and completed a permanent transfer a year later after playing a key role in the club’s promotion back to the Premier League.

Across three seasons with the Foxes, he established himself as one of the team’s most exciting attacking talents, contributing 16 goals in 100 appearances.

International career

Since making his senior debut for Ghana, Fatawu has earned 32 international caps and has represented the Black Stars at both the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups.

He also enjoyed success with Ghana’s U-20 side, helping the Black Satellites win the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was named the tournament’s best player.

Ready for a new challenge

Fatawu is expected to join Ipswich Town’s pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, as manager Gary O’Neil prepares the squad for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Ipswich will be hoping the Ghanaian’s speed, creativity, and attacking flair will strengthen their squad as they look to compete successfully in England’s top flight.
