Agya Koo

Popular Ghanaian actor Agya Koo has revealed plans to establish a new political group called the Ghana First Party, aimed at changing the country’s political dynamics.

The veteran Kumawood figure says the move is intended to challenge the long-standing dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), positioning the new party as a credible third alternative.

In a media interview, he disclosed that preparations are already ongoing across the country, with all sixteen regions expected to contribute to building the party’s foundation.

He noted that the Ghana First Party will prioritise the needs of ordinary citizens, especially traders, while also promoting tourism and broader national development.

“We all know that the two biggest political parties in the country, the NPP and the NDC, always dominate the political space. As a result, if not NPP then NDC will win power.

That is why we have thought about it to bring a third force to compete with them. We are bringing a party that thinks about the traders, a party that can bring tourism and all developments,” he stated.

His move into active politics represents a significant shift, although he has consistently been outspoken on political issues in Ghana.

In past elections, he publicly supported the NPP, using his platform to campaign for the party’s leadership and policies.

This stance earned him praise from supporters of the party, while also drawing criticism from others who questioned the role of celebrities in partisan politics.

He is well known for featuring in movies such as Kumasi YonkoObaatanpaAway BusBlack StarMa Tricki Wo, and Boys Abre.
