Emerse Fae has officially stepped down as head coach of the Ivory Coast national football team after the expiration of his contract, with the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) confirming that his deal will not be extended.
In a statement released on Friday, the federation announced that Fae’s contract ended on July 31, 2026, and that a decision had been made not to renew his appointment.
Fae took charge of the Elephants during the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations after then-head coach Jean-Louis Gasset was dismissed during the group stage of the tournament. Initially appointed on an interim basis, he inspired the hosts to a remarkable turnaround, leading them to their third AFCON title with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final.
Following that success, Fae was confirmed as the team’s permanent head coach and later guided Ivory Coast to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under his leadership, the Elephants progressed beyond the group stage for the first time in the competition before their campaign ended with a defeat to Norway in the Round of 32.
The Ivorian Football Federation commended Fae for his dedication and achievements, describing his tenure as a significant chapter in the country’s recent football history.
The federation also announced that details regarding the appointment of a new head coach will be communicated in due course.
