The government is scheduled to present the 2027 budget to Parliament on November 12, with plans to shift Ghana’s economy from stabilisation towards increased productivity, competitiveness and technology-driven growth.

Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem said the upcoming budget would outline the next phase of the government’s economic agenda, with greater emphasis on turning economic gains into employment opportunities, higher incomes and improved living standards.

Speaking at the launch of Ghana in Numbers 2025 in Accra, Mr Ampem stressed that economic stability should serve as a foundation for sustainable growth and widespread prosperity.

“Stability is the foundation. Productivity is the engine. Jobs and prosperity must be the destination,” he stated.

He reported that Ghana’s economy expanded by 6 per cent in 2025 and recorded growth of 6.2 per cent in the first half of 2026. He also noted that inflation had fallen from 23.8 per cent in December 2024 to 5.2 per cent in September 2026.

According to the Deputy Finance Minister, the government’s next priority is to introduce policies that promote local value addition, strengthen businesses and create more economic opportunities for young people.

He argued that Ghana must reduce its dependence on exporting raw materials by developing the capacity to process local resources into higher-value goods and services.

Mr Ampem further emphasised the need to transform the country’s approach to employment and entrepreneurship by equipping more people to become innovators, business owners and job creators.

“We must move from exporting raw materials to exporting value and from producing job seekers to nurturing innovators, entrepreneurs and job creators,” he said.

The 2027 budget is expected to outline the government’s key economic priorities for the coming year, with particular attention to boosting productivity, expanding employment opportunities and ensuring that macroeconomic stability translates into tangible improvements in the lives of Ghanaians.
