Good Friday, observed on April 3 this year, is marked by Christians across the nation in remembrance of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
The day is typically solemn, with church services, fasting, and quiet reflection on what believers see as a sacrifice for humanity’s redemption.
Many churches also hold special programmes, including prayer sessions and dramatisation of events leading to the crucifixion.
Easter Monday, which falls on April 6, follows three days later and carries a more festive tone. It is commonly used for relaxation and social activities, with families and friends travelling, organising picnics, visiting tourist attractions, and taking part in community events.
The Easter season also boosts economic activity, especially in sectors like transportation, hospitality, and retail, as people move around to celebrate with loved ones or attend events.
Due to the increased travel during this period, authorities often step up public safety awareness, particularly road safety campaigns.
Although there are only two holidays in April, their strong cultural, religious, and economic impact makes the month a notable time for both spiritual observance and social interaction in Ghana.
