Renowned gospel artist Joe Mettle has announced that he will not be entering his works for consideration at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), explaining that he has chosen to take a brief break.
In an exclusive interview with Hitz FM’s Nii Noi, the multiple award-winning musician was asked whether he was expecting any nominations following the awards board’s call for submissions from artistes, producers, and songwriters. In response, Joe Mettle made it clear that he had already informed the board of his decision to step back for the year.
He further explained that he would be unavailable on the date scheduled for the awards ceremony, noting that this was a key reason behind his decision not to participate. According to him, he had seen the event date and knew he would not be present.
Addressing speculation about whether his break could extend beyond 2026, the “Thank You” hitmaker declined to look too far ahead, stressing that his focus is strictly on the current year. He emphasized that his decision applies only to this year and that any future plans would be considered when the time comes.
As a result of this choice, Joe Mettle will neither submit his music for nominations nor take part in any TGMA-related activities this year. He also confirmed that Charter House, the organizers of the awards scheme, have been officially notified and have acknowledged his decision.
