New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the party’s foremost priority is to return to power by defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.

According to the former vice president, the NPP’s ongoing internal reorganization is essential to rebuilding the party’s structures, strengthening its membership, and positioning it for victory in the next election.

Dr Bawumia made the comments on Sunday, August 16, when he addressed newly elected Greater Accra Regional executives following the party’s regional executive elections.

He urged the new executives to dedicate themselves to the reorganization exercise and work collectively to strengthen the party from the grassroots to the national level.

He explained that the regional elections held on August 15 should not be regarded as the conclusion of the NPP’s internal activities but as another stage in a wider restructuring process designed to establish a stronger and more effective political organisation ahead of 2028.

“The goal for all of us is to win the 2028 election. This is just a stepping stone towards winning 2028,” Dr Bawumia said.

He noted that the party had already completed elections at the polling station, electoral area and constituency levels, with the regional elections representing another major stage in the reorganisation process.

The process, he said, will be completed with the national executive elections scheduled for October 10.

Dr Bawumia expressed confidence that once the reorganization exercise is completed, the NPP would have a stronger organizational structure capable of driving the party towards victory in the 2028 general elections.

He, however, cautioned the newly elected regional executives not to treat their election simply as a political achievement.

Instead, he urged them to see their new positions as a responsibility that comes with significant work, particularly the task of rebuilding and repositioning the party to compete effectively in the 2028 elections.
