Abu Trica Denied bail

Frederick Kumi, popularly known by the aliases Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng and Abu Trica, has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Gbese District Court in Accra, together with two other accused persons, over allegations of cybercrime and money laundering.

The court denied the suspects bail, ordering that they remain in lawful custody pending further legal proceedings.

The three individuals were arrested by Ghanaian security agencies following an international investigation led by authorities in the United States.

According to prosecutors, the suspects are linked to a sophisticated cybercrime operation accused of defrauding elderly victims of more than US$8 million through various online schemes.

Court proceedings were conducted under tight security on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, as investigators detailed a range of cyber-related offences allegedly committed by the suspects. These include online fraud, identity theft, and the movement of illicit funds across international financial systems.

Abu Trica Denied bail

U.S. federal authorities, particularly a grand jury in the Northern District of Ohio, have formally indicted Frederick Kumi for his alleged role in orchestrating online romance scams dating back to 2023. Investigators say the scheme specifically targeted vulnerable elderly individuals, exploiting emotional connections formed online to fraudulently obtain large sums of money.

Prosecutors revealed that the suspects used false identities and deceptive online platforms to gain the trust of victims before manipulating them into transferring funds. The proceeds were then allegedly laundered through complex financial channels to conceal their origin.

The case has been adjourned to January 13, 2026, when the court is expected to continue hearing the matter. During the next sitting, authorities are anticipated to present additional evidence as legal processes toward the suspects’ possible extradition to the United States advance.

Meanwhile, Abu Trica and his co-accused remain in custody as investigations continue, with both Ghanaian and U.S. law enforcement agencies collaborating closely to ensure the suspects face justice under international law.
