Carlos Queiroz is reportedly on the verge of extending his tenure as Ghana head coach after earning the confidence of both the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The Portuguese manager, who took charge of the Black Stars on a short-term deal ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is expected to sign a fresh two-year contract in the coming days as football authorities seek to build on the progress made under his leadership.
The proposed extension follows a detailed review of Ghana’s World Cup performance. Despite the Black Stars’ exit in the Round of 32, officials are said to be encouraged by the team’s development under the 73-year-old tactician.

According to reports, the GFA and the Sports Ministry believe Queiroz has instilled greater discipline, tactical structure, and a defined style of play during his relatively brief spell in charge.
Should the new agreement be finalised, Queiroz’s first major assignment will be to lead Ghana through the qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Black Stars have been drawn alongside Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, and Somalia in the qualifying series.
In addition to securing qualification, Queiroz will be expected to help Ghana end its decades-long wait for another AFCON title. The four-time African champions last lifted the continental trophy in 1982.

Football officials are believed to view Queiroz’s extensive international coaching experience and proven ability to manage teams in high-pressure competitions as key reasons for retaining him, with continuity seen as an important part of the Black Stars’ rebuilding process.
If the deal is completed, the veteran coach will immediately shift his focus to preparations for the AFCON qualifiers while continuing to implement his long-term vision for the national team.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days, with both the GFA and the Ministry of Sports hopeful that Queiroz can restore Ghana’s status among Africa’s leading football nations and guide the Black Stars to future success.
