The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed as misleading a widely shared notice claiming that the 2026 school selection exercise for candidates sitting the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) began on June 15, 2026.
In a statement released on June 14, the Service clarified that it has not announced the start of the school selection process and urged candidates, parents, guardians, teachers, and the public to disregard the information circulating on social media and other platforms.
According to GES, the fake notice falsely stated that candidates were required to choose and submit five preferred schools ahead of the placement exercise.

It also misleadingly suggested that there was no deadline for submissions and directed stakeholders to seek assistance through an unofficial WhatsApp contact.
GES stressed that the publication was not issued by the Service and should be ignored. It emphasised that all information concerning school selection and placement exercises would be communicated only through its official channels and authorised platforms.
The Service further warned parents, guardians, and candidates against sharing personal information or interacting with individuals behind the fraudulent announcement, noting that such misinformation could expose unsuspecting members of the public to scams and other forms of exploitation.

GES also encouraged stakeholders to verify education-related information before acting on it and to rely solely on announcements issued through official government and education sector communication channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to a fair and transparent placement process, the Service assured the public that any updates regarding the 2026 school selection exercise would be officially announced in due course.
