A Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officer stationed at the Accra International Airport has been transferred following the circulation of a viral video in which she was allegedly seen asking a passenger for money for “breakfast.”
The incident has renewed concerns about alleged extortion by some officials operating at Ghana’s main international airport.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
According to GACL, the Ghana Immigration Service has confirmed that the officer featured in the video has been removed from duty at the airport.

GACL stated that management had taken note of the video showing the immigration officer allegedly requesting “breakfast” money from a passenger and that the GIS had subsequently confirmed her transfer from the airport.
Port Health Officers Accused of Overcharging Passenger
GACL also revealed a separate case involving two Port Health officers who were allegedly found to have collected more than the approved fee from a foreign passport holder for a Yellow Fever Card.
The approved charge for a Yellow Fever Card is US$20 for foreign passport holders and GH¢100 for Ghanaian passport holders.
However, the two officers allegedly demanded and collected US$40 from the foreign passenger, twice the official fee.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 5, 2026, inside Terminal 3 at the Accra International Airport.
GACL said disciplinary action was taken immediately after the incident was identified.

The identification cards of the two Port Health officers, which authorized them to operate within the airport terminal, have been withdrawn and deactivated.
They have also been prohibited from working at the Accra International Airport or any other facility operated by GACL.
The company said the officers were no longer authorized to work at any GACL-operated airport as of Thursday, August 6, 2026.
GACL Warns Against Airport Extortion
GACL said it considers allegations of extortion at the airport a serious matter and stressed that personnel working within its facilities are subject to monitoring.
The company has encouraged passengers who encounter officials demanding unauthorized payments to document the incidents and report them to the appropriate authorities.
Passengers are particularly advised to keep evidence, where possible, and provide relevant details that could assist authorities in investigating such complaints.
The latest incidents come amid renewed calls for greater accountability and transparency among officials operating at Ghana’s airports.
