The Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has revealed that the government has initiated plans to recruit new workers into the public sector.
This announcement comes despite earlier disclosures that the state had to secure a GH₵17 billion loan to pay public sector wages in 2025.
Speaking at a Presidential Encounter with Organised Labour on March 17, Dr Forson explained that the recruitment drive is part of an agreement with labour groups aimed at fulfilling commitments to expand the workforce.
He noted that, regarding the 2026 base pay, the government had pledged to engage unions on unresolved conditions of service while carrying out essential recruitment within existing budget limits. As part of this effort, processes to hire new public sector staff have already begun.
He also added that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has started discussions with organised labour to review conditions of service, with approvals expected soon.
