Ghanaian actress Nikki Samonas has sparked fresh conversations about motherhood and societal expectations, questioning whether having children should be considered a necessity for women.
Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, she clarified that she is not in a hurry to start a family, emphasising that motherhood is not an obligation she feels pressured to fulfil.
While she acknowledges the importance of companionship, Nikki noted that it doesn’t have to come through childbirth alone. She highlighted that meaningful connections can also be found through family, friendships, pets, and relationships.
According to her, the decision is not based on fear or doubt, but rather on the realities of modern living and the importance of being emotionally and financially ready before raising a child.
She added that she needs to be certain about the person she chooses to have a child with, stressing that although she has never been pregnant, she believes the right time will come naturally.
Nikki also addressed rumours about infertility, dismissing them by pointing to her family’s strong history of fertility.
As an only child, she explained that she is cautious about taking on such responsibility until she feels fully prepared.
Her remarks have since triggered widespread discussion online, with many debating the balance between personal choice and societal pressure when it comes to motherhood.
