The Mfantsipim School community has been thrown into mourning following the death of a 17-year-old final-year student whose body was discovered in an unfinished building in Cape Coast.
The deceased, Emmanuel Arthur, was preparing to sit for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
His body was found in an uncompleted structure at Ola North, a suburb within the Cape Coast metropolis, after a nearby carpenter alerted the police.
In a statement, the Central Regional Police Command confirmed that officers responded to a report on June 11, 2026, regarding the discovery of a body in the abandoned building.
During investigations at the scene, police recovered several items believed to belong to the student. These included a black backpack containing educational materials, among them a geography paper.

The evidence gathered led investigators to contact authorities at Mfantsipim School, who subsequently confirmed that the deceased was a final-year student of the institution. His family was later informed and assisted in the identification process.
According to police, the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting it had remained at the location for some time before its discovery.
Following an examination by a pathologist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, the remains were released to the family for burial.
As part of precautionary public health measures, authorities fumigated the uncompleted building after the body had been removed.
Police investigations have since concluded that the student died by suicide. However, officials say enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances and possible factors that may have contributed to the tragic incident.
While the cause of death has been determined, investigators are working to uncover the events leading up to the student’s death as part of ongoing efforts to fully understand the case.
