Voting in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries has officially ended, and counting of ballots is currently in progress at polling centres across the country.
Some voting centres have reported alleged cases of vote buying, leading party officials and security agencies to step up monitoring to contain the situation. In a number of locations, individuals found with unauthorised body cameras were reportedly arrested, sparking concerns about adherence to the party’s electoral guidelines.
Overall, however, the exercise has been largely calm and well organised, with party leadership calling on delegates and supporters to maintain composure and alertness as the collation of results continues.
The NPP has reiterated its pledge to ensure a free, fair and credible process, assuring members that all reported violations will be fully investigated and dealt with appropriately.
Five candidates are contesting the race: Kennedy Agyapong; former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong; former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
