Obuasi Secondary Technical School

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has announced the indefinite closure of Obuasi Secondary Technical School following a violent disturbance on campus during which the school’s headmaster was allegedly assaulted by a group of students.

The decision comes after unrest at the school escalated, forcing security personnel to intervene to restore order and protect both lives and property.

Reports indicate that the disturbance began after some students alleged that the headmaster had been spotted burying a fetus in a nearby bush. The students further claimed the fetus was connected to an alleged abortion involving a student of the school.

The allegations reportedly sparked anger among sections of the student body, leading to an attack on the headmaster and widespread destruction of school property.

The Ghana Police Service has since arrested six students in connection with the alleged assault and has launched investigations into the incident.

The violence is also reported to have caused significant damage to school property, including three staff bungalows, several vehicles and other valuable assets on the campus.

In a statement, the Obuasi Municipal Assembly said the school’s closure is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers and other staff while investigations continue.

According to the Assembly, the temporary shutdown will help prevent further disturbances and provide authorities with the opportunity to restore calm on the campus.

Although officials have not released details about the headmaster’s condition, reports indicate that he was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical treatment after the attack.

Police investigations into both the alleged assault and the claims that triggered the unrest remain ongoing.
