The Parliament of Ghana has forwarded the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025 to the relevant parliamentary committees for detailed examination and a report back to the full House.
Commonly referred to as the anti-gay bill, the proposed legislation sparked significant national debate during the 8th Parliament but did not receive presidential assent before that term ended.
Despite assertions by the Majority that the bill had been sent to the Presidency for approval, it had to be reintroduced because it expired with the dissolution of the previous Parliament.
The re-tabled bill is being led by John Ntim Fordjour, supported by nine other Members of Parliament, including the Minister for Communication, Samuel George.
While presenting the proposal, Mr. Ntim Fordjour highlighted its main aims and accused the government of showing insufficient commitment to ensuring its passage. In response, the Majority Leader dismissed those claims and clarified the government’s stance on the matter.
The designated committees will now scrutinize the bill and present their findings to the House for further discussion and possible action.
