Black Sherif

Black Sherif has once again proven his dominance on Ghana’s biggest music platform after winning the prestigious Artiste of the Year award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) for the second time in his career.

The achievement makes him the 27th artiste to win the top honour since the awards scheme was introduced.

His victory came after an outstanding night at TGMA 27, where he emerged as one of the biggest winners by taking home six awards in total, further cementing his influence and consistency within Ghana’s music industry.

Black Sherif secured the Artiste of the Year title ahead of strong contenders including Sarkodie, Medikal, Wendy Shay, and Diana Hamilton, all of whom enjoyed impactful years in music.

Aside from the top award, the “Konongo Zongo” hitmaker also won Songwriter of the Year, Best Hip Hop Song of the Year, Best Afropop Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.

The impressive sweep reflects the remarkable growth of his career and the expanding reach of his music beyond Ghana.

Black Sherif’s journey began gaining attention in 2019 when he released “Cry for Me” on YouTube, a raw and emotional track that introduced audiences to his unique sound and storytelling style.

His major breakthrough arrived in 2022 with the release of “Kwaku the Traveller,” which topped music charts both in Ghana and internationally, launching him into the African spotlight and establishing him as one of the continent’s fastest-rising stars.

Since then, he has consistently remained among the leading names in conversations surrounding the Artiste of the Year category, earning multiple nominations and maintaining his place among Ghana’s elite musicians.

What makes this year’s triumph particularly remarkable is that he entered the awards season without dominating public discussions as heavily as in previous years.

However, by the end of the night, his music and achievements ultimately spoke louder than the competition.

With two Artiste of the Year titles now under his belt, Black Sherif has firmly established himself not only as part of Ghana’s new generation of artistes but also as one of the defining figures shaping its future.
