The government has dismissed claims circulating on social media about a viral video featuring President John Dramani Mahama, insisting that the president’s remarks have been misrepresented for political reasons.
The clarification was issued by the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a Facebook post on Monday, July 27, following the widespread circulation of the video online.
According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s comments were deliberately taken out of context by individuals seeking to advance partisan interests.
He stated that President Mahama’s remarks were specifically about the release of GH¢150 million to support post-flood mitigation efforts during a discussion with the National Security Coordinator.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu explained that the President was referring to the release of funds earmarked for flood response and recovery measures, stressing that the conversation was solely focused on that subject.
He further urged Ghanaians not to be deceived by misleading interpretations of the video, describing the circulating claims as false and intended to misinform the public.
The government has therefore appealed to the public to ignore the viral claims and rely on the President’s remarks in their proper context.
