The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School (KNUST SHS) in Kumasi has announced the death of one of its WASSCE candidates after the student reportedly suffered a short illness during the ongoing examination period.
School authorities said they are grieving with the family of the deceased while also putting measures in place to support the remaining candidates and provide a calm environment for them to continue their exams.
Management further disclosed that another candidate registered for the examination has dropped out of school and is currently not participating in the ongoing papers.
The school also confirmed that a pregnant student successfully took part in the English oral examination together with the other candidates.
In total, 1,022 students from KNUST SHS are participating in this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination as candidates nationwide begin writing the core subjects.
Speaking on the conduct of the exams, Assistant Headmaster (Academic) and Assistant Examination Supervisor, Agyekum Kwaku, described the process so far as peaceful and well-organised.
He emphasised that the school strictly upholds a zero-tolerance policy against examination malpractice.
He added that supervisors and invigilators are actively ensuring that all examination rules and guidelines are fully observed.
Meanwhile, other examination centres in Kumasi, including St. Louis Senior High School and T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, have also reported smooth and orderly examination sessions as over 500,000 candidates across Ghana continue with the ongoing WASSCE.
