The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has nullified the entire results of 105 candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates after confirming their involvement in examination malpractice.
The decision was approved during the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for BECE 2026, following investigations into examination irregularities identified during the conduct of the exams and the marking of scripts.
According to WAEC, the affected candidates will not receive valid results for the 2026 BECE, as all the subjects they wrote have been cancelled.
Additional Sanctions Announced
Aside from the cancellation of the complete results of 105 candidates, the Council imposed several other sanctions on candidates found to have breached examination regulations.
These include:
- 496 candidates whose results in specific subjects have been cancelled.
- 119 candidates whose subject results have been withheld pending the outcome of further investigations.
- 48 candidates whose entire results have been withheld.
WAEC also disclosed that the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld while investigations into suspected examination irregularities continue.
The Council stated that the withheld results will either be released or cancelled after investigations are concluded, with the review process expected to be completed by August 31, 2026.
Affected Candidates Advised to Check Status
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been directed to visit WAEC’s official irregularities portal to view the reasons for the sanctions and obtain information on any required follow-up actions.
Heads of schools and proprietors can also verify the status of affected candidates using their official school login credentials.
WAEC Warns Against Examination Result Fraud
The Council has cautioned candidates, parents, and the general public against individuals who claim they can alter or upgrade examination results in exchange for payment.
WAEC emphasized that its examination results are securely protected and can only be verified through its official authentication channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the integrity of public examinations, the Council stated that it will continue to enforce strict disciplinary measures against candidates found guilty of violating examination regulations.
