Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of the late highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, has revealed her intention to challenge the High Court ruling that dismissed her bid to be acknowledged as his sole legally married wife.
The court recently decided that her marriage to the musician did not qualify as an ordinance marriage — a designation that would have barred him from entering into any later marriages.
Speaking to Citi FM in Accra, her lawyer, William Kusi, said they plan to “file the appeal by the close of the day,” arguing that the High Court made a mistake in its decision. He claimed that “documents on record and admissions from the defendants” clearly backed Serwaa’s argument.
Kusi also rejected public claims that he mishandled parts of the case, particularly concerns about certifying the marriage certificate through a German authority. He explained that the law provides “several acceptable avenues” for filing such documents and insisted that his team acted properly.
The dispute has drawn wide public interest, underscoring the legal challenges around how marriages are classified and validated under Ghanaian law.
