Officials from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have arrested 320 people in connection with a suspected human trafficking and recruitment scam in different parts of the Ashanti Region.
Following a thorough screening, EOCO identified 295 of them as victims of human trafficking, while 25 others—believed to be the recruiters behind the fraudulent operation—were detained. The suspects allegedly deceived their victims with false promises of employment, education, and travel opportunities, claiming to represent the company QNET.
The victims, who were transported from various regions across Ghana, were housed at separate locations in Kenyasi (Kwabre East Municipality) and Buoho (Afigya South District).
According to Staff Officer Dominic Mensah, Head of EOCO’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, arrangements are underway to provide temporary shelter for the victims and facilitate their reunification with their families.
Meanwhile, QNET’s Head of Compliance, Theodocia Naana Bennieh Quartey, voiced concern over the persistent misuse of the company’s name in fraudulent schemes. She added that QNET is working closely with security agencies to crack down on those involved in such illegal operations.
