Former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, has been released from custody after the Attorney-General withdrew an application seeking to suspend the execution of the Court of Appeal’s decision that acquitted her.
Her release follows the Court of Appeal’s decision nearly two weeks ago to overturn her conviction and acquit and discharge her.
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Court of Appeal dismissed the Attorney-General’s application after the State withdrew it. The development paved the way for Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu to regain her freedom.

Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu served as MASLOC CEO between November 2013 and January 2017.
She was prosecuted on 78 charges, including conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the State, money laundering, improper payment of public funds and violations of the Public Procurement Act.
In April 2024, the Accra High Court found her guilty and sentenced her to 10 years in prison in absentia.
After being extradited from the United States, she returned to Ghana in June 2026 and was subsequently taken into custody to begin the legal process surrounding her conviction.

Her legal team later appealed the High Court’s verdict at the Court of Appeal. The appellate court overturned the conviction and subsequently acquitted and discharged her.
Although the Attorney-General has announced plans to challenge the Court of Appeal’s ruling at the Supreme Court, the withdrawal of the application seeking a stay of execution means the acquittal and discharge can take effect while the State pursues the next stage of the legal process.
