The Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria following a viral video that allegedly showed him assaulting a pastor who had been taken into police custody.

The pastor, identified as Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, was arrested by the police on Wednesday, August 12, after another video circulated on social media in which he was allegedly heard making derogatory and offensive remarks about Prophet Mohammed.

In a statement shared on Facebook on Thursday, August 13, the Police Service confirmed that Zakaria is currently in custody and assisting investigators with inquiries into the alleged assault.

The Police said the suspect will be brought before the court once investigations into the matter are concluded.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has launched a separate investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.

The Bureau will examine the events surrounding the alleged assault and determine the conduct of the police officers and other individuals who may have been involved.

The Police Service has assured the public that anyone found to have breached the law or violated professional standards will face the appropriate disciplinary action.
