The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that appointment letters are now being issued to successful applicants recruited into the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The development follows President John Dramani Mahama’s recent approval for the recruitment of an additional 16,000 trained teachers to help reduce the backlog of qualified graduates awaiting employment.
Speaking on the ongoing recruitment exercise, Mr. Iddrisu said the first batch of successful applicants is currently receiving appointment letters as part of the initial phase of the government’s employment drive.
He disclosed that between 7,000 and 10,000 newly recruited teachers are expected to receive their postings this week.
The Education Minister also revealed that government is making preparations to recruit another group of trained teachers drawn from the 2023 and 2024 graduating cohorts.
According to Mr. Iddrisu, President Mahama has approved the recruitment of up to 10,000 additional teachers under the next phase of the exercise.
He explained that the recruitment process for the second batch is expected to commence in November or December 2026, allowing successful applicants to begin work in January 2027.
The Minister noted that the phased recruitment is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the education sector, reduce unemployment among trained teachers, and ensure that more qualified graduates are absorbed into the Ghana Education Service in a timely manner.
